Gardening in Dance Class

New Ballet Teacher: “Balance… ok, here is a visual for you – your supporting leg is strong, drilling down through the ball of your foot into the floor, your supporting leg is being rooted down into the floor. It’s not going anywhere, it’s strong and straight. But up on top, your arabesque is blooming like a delicate flower, beautiful and open. Got it? Strong and straight here, delicate and opening on top. Now go for it, I’d rather see you falling out of arabesque than playing it safe, bloom, ladies, bloom.”

How awesome is that!? I can’t even add to it, to keep on typing would be to diminish the imagery.  There is a life lesson here, but for another day and another blog post.

Bloom, ladies and gentlemen, bloom!
